I enjoyed two levels in this second book in the Alex Sullivan series (and I do hope there are many more; write fast, please, Nancy). The first is the murder mystery itself, of course. Lots of bodies, lots of intrigue, some finely drawn characters, a red herring or two, and a dénouement that blew me away. Great stuff!The second level is that of human motivation, and the relation to mental illness. Simply, in regard to the prime villain, does greed make one crazy, or does craziness (megalomania) make one greedy? And there is then the matter of the variety of ways that we respond to that prime villain. I don't know the answers, and will continue to ponder.
And I do hope that the author writes fast, as I need Book 3! Thanks, Nancy.

It is such a pleasure to meet with Alex Sullivan again. I also love it when I can have fun reading a novel and learn something new at the same time. The suspense, the Zen Buddhism, the New Mexico desert, the rich characters - especially Alex Sullivan, whose character also seems so authentic - left me wanting more. The story is fast-paced and kept my interest until the very end. Keep writing Nancy! You have a continued fan!
Wonderful read--even more fast-paced and fascinating than One Hand Killing. The heroine, Alex Sullivan is a complex and smart homicide cop, who runs into the oddest murders. keep writing, nancy o'hara, I want more!
Zen Buddhism and murder! Quite an interesting combination. I have read all of Nancy O'Hara's, books her non-fiction as well as her two fictional Alex Sullivan novels.
This book was a wonderful fast- paced who-done-it that kept you wondering who the muderer was. I recommend this book highly to all mystery novel fans.
Mystery is not my usual genre of choice, but I have long been a fan of the author's writing so decided to try One Hand Killing, followed by her current offering Killing Sacred. I am glad that I read them one after the other, It made for some very pleasant late night page turning! Ms. O'Hara has a very distinct narrative voice. The characters are clear, well defined and at the same time complex. The action is driven by their choices, whether psychological, emotional or spiritual and never strays too far from what you might expect from them, which is not to say that there are no surprises - there are. The books scream "let's solve this together!" and I found them highly enjoyable.
I liked this novel, but it could have been better. The first about 3/4 was well written and in a normal narrative with normal conversations by the characters. The last portion was written in street slang which made the characters sound ignorant which obviously they weren't. Please change the book cover, it was a very small part of the story.
